Abstract:

Ye’elimite (C4A3S) is the principal clinker mineral in sulfoaluminate cement, characterized by low carbon emissions and high early-age reactivity. C4A3S exists in three polymorphic forms: cubic, orthorhombic, and tetragonal systems, which exhibit distinct hydration activities. Therefore, elucidating the relationship between crystal structure and hydration activity of C4A3S and achieving effective regulation of its crystal form are of great significance for developing novel sulfoaluminate cement clinker systems. This paper systematically reviews the crystal form regulation methods of C4A3S, including temperature control method, molten salt synthesis method, and ion doping method, with emphasis on analyzing the efficacy and underlying mechanisms of different regulation methods. On this basis, combined with the structural characteristics of various C4A3S crystal form, the influence of crystal form regulation on hydration kinetics, hydration activity, and hydration products is summarized and analyzed, providing theoretical references for the application of C4A3S crystal form regulation technology in sulfoaluminate cement.
