Abstract: The effects of different cordierite contents on the properties of mullite-bauxite castable refractory were analyzed respectively by taking the mullite, bauxite as main raw materials and taking calcium aluminate cement as binding system. After 24 h curing in mould and another 24 h curing at 110 ℃ after demoulding, the specimens were heat treated at 1000 ℃,1300 ℃ and 1500 ℃for 3 h respectively. The permanent linear change, bulk density, modulus of rupture, clod crushing strength, thermal expansion coefficient and thermal shock resistance were examined. The results showed that bulk density of mullite-bauxite castable refractory is reduced with the increasing of cordierite content. The modulus of rupture is reduced with the increasing of cordierite content after 1000 ℃ and 1300 ℃; Thermal shock resistance of mullite-bauxite castable refractory is improved with the increasing of cordierite content, conservation rate of strength is increased gradually, and low bulk density contributes to high conservation rate of strength after thermal shocking.
