Abstract: Geopolymer is a kind of cementitious materials with network structures and amorphous phase , which can be synthesized by activating aluminosilicate through alkaline solution .Due to the mechanical properties of geopolymer are better than those of ordinary portland cement , and the CO 2 emissions in production process are less than the latter , the geopolymer is regarded as a promising substitute for ordinary portland cement .Many researchers believe that the durability of geopolymer for civil structural applications is better than that of OPC , however some other researchers remain sceptical of that and consider the durability of geopolymer needs further studies .Based on most of the available literatures , the present paper reviews the researches on durability of geopolymer in civil engineering application , including the gas permeability and water absorption , the carbonization , the sulfate corrosion , the acid corrosion, the alkali aggregate reaction , and the chloride ingress .In addition, the mechanisms of the material resisting the attacks were summarized , and the problems in the current researches were discussed .
