Abstract: A simple route w as developed to synthesize calcium phosphates by using Ca glycolate and n-butanol solution of P2O5 as the precursors. Research results showed that the introduction of acetic acid (HOAC) could well control the reactions between the precursors and could eliminate the precipitation present in the mixtures of the precursor solutions. Stable solutions were obtained in the mixtures of the precursor solutions with Ca/P ratios of 1.00, 1.50 and 1.67 when the mixtures had HOAC in a HOAC/Ca ratio of 4. After the stable solutions w ere evaporated, dried gel-like powders could be formed. Pure β-Ca2P2O7 phase, pure β-tricalcium phosphate phase and hydroxyapatite containing a small amount of CaO were obtained by calcining the dried gel-like powders with the corresponding Ca/P ratios at 1000℃. In the formation of stable mixed solutions, HOAC plays roles to modify the Ca glycolate and to increase the acidity of the mixtures and as a result, it depresses the reactions between the precursors.
