Abstract:

With the increasingly prominent problem of antibiotic residues in water, it is of great significance to develop low-cost, efficient and environmentally friendly adsorption materials for the pollution control of antibiotics such as norfloxacin (NOR). Biochar was prepared from rice straw, and modified by iron and manganese to adsorb and remove NOR in water. The structure and surface properties of biochar before and after modification were analyzed by FT-IR, XRD, SEM and BET. The adsorption kinetics, thermodynamic properties and adsorption mechanism of NOR on different materials were systematically investigated. The kinetic adsorption test was carried out at 298 K and pH=5.2±0.1, and the isothermal adsorption test was carried out at 298, 308, 318 K and pH=5.2±0.1. The results show that iron-manganese modified biochar (FMBC) introduces more metal active sites, exhibits a high specific surface area (222.23 m2/g) and develops mesoporous structure dominated by 2 nm to 10 nm, which is conducive to the chemisorption of NOR. The NOR equilibrium adsorption capacity of FMBC is the largest at 318 K condition, which is 69.44 mg/g. The adsorption mechanism of NOR on FMBC mainly involves many physical and chemical mechanisms such as pore filling, hydrogen bonding, π-π electron donor-acceptor interaction and so on.
