Abstract: As a novel type of nano porous materials, silica aerogel has exhibited extensive application prospects in thermal, optical and electrical and other industrial fields owing to its super-low thermal conductivity. However, its thermal insulation performance in high temperature and mechanical behavior are poor.Commonly they could be improved by adding additives of opacifiers and fibers into aerogel matrix to form three-component aerogel composite. In the progress of improving, component contents significantly influences the thermal and mechanical properties. Therefore this study is aiming to investigate the effect of the component contents on thermal conductivities and mechanical properties based on theoretical models. The ternary orthogonal design method was used to optimize component contents, and thereby to provide guidance engineering area of component contents for satisfying the engineering requirements of thermal and mechanical properties simultaneously.
