Abstract: Phosphogypsum ( PG) is an industrial by-product generated from the manufacture of phosphoric acid by the wet process .Considering a huge amount of PG discharge , and a wide demand of cement in infrastructure construction , utilizing PG in cement manufacture is an encouraging approach .This paper firstly reviewed the current challenges of using PG in ordinary Portland cement ( OPC ) and calcium sulfoaluminate cement (SAC) manufacturing. Then, the application of using PG in SAC production is discussed as a new promising way to utilize PG .When using PG to produce SAC as one of raw materials , PG can render calcareous material for OPC and SAC production .But the negative impact of impurities in PG on properties of SAC can also be eliminated by the calcination processing . However , further researches are needed to increase the decomposition rate of PG . Sulfate-rich SAC cement can be produced by adding excess PG in raw materials , in that way the decomposition rate of PG can be increased .In addition , the impurities in PG can be used as functional component to modify the setting of SAC .
